Lesson notes

Welcome to the course.

Throughout the upcoming 4 modules, you will learn:

  • Learning what it means to be safe, feel safe, and create safety in your body
  • Cultivating mind-body awareness to help you notice when you’re triggered and to feel and process your emotions
  • What trauma, and specifically relational development trauma is and how it affects our relationships to others and the world
  • Attachment styles, ways we relate to our partner in moments of stress and overwhelm that form as a result of our upbrining
  • Defence mechanisms that form in order to try and protect us from our wounding
  • Emotional processing – how to do the uncomfortable work of accessing and feeling your emotions and proccessing traumatic memories and sensations safely
  • How to hold space so that your partner feels safe and supported

Here, we defined trauma as an event that was too fast, too much, too soon, or too alone for your body and mind to process on its own, resulting in an incomplete physiological response to that event that stayed in the body. Trauma is not the event itself, but how that event affected us.

Embodiment means becoming more present with and connected to your body and the sensations and emotions you feel. Apply the exercises and practice embodiment regularly (breathwork, meditation, yoga) and you will make better progress.

A reminder to purchase a journal, take notes as you go, and spend time writing regularly to help you process what you learn and experience.

Thanks for being here.

– Jack
